Freshgraduates as well as professionals in the field of information technology willnow have chance to take the Philippine Information Technology GeneralCertification Examination (PHIL-IT GCE) in Bacolod.
The Bacolod-NegrosOccidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT),Inc. will host the PHIL-IT GCE on February 3 and 4, 2012 to be held inside theWest Negros University campus. BNEFITsupports to the growth of the ICT-BPO industry inBacolod and in promoting our city and the province as an ideal outsourcingdestination in the Philippines since 2008. Among our goals is to developa very conducive business environment to drive investments and generate jobs inthe province by addressing the issue of talent supply,
Inline with these goals, BNEFIT founder Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said, “we arepartnering with the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for InformationTechnology (CEDF-IT) in collaboration with www.itpros.ph, the European Chamberof Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), and the European IT Service CenterFoundation (EITSC) for the holding of PHIL-IT GCE.”
The PHIL-IT GCE is considered as an overall evaluation of thegraduate’s level of cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning as specifiedin B.S. Computer Science; B.S. Computer Engineering; B.S. InformationTechnology; and, B.S. Information Management curricula, as well as thegraduate’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes pertinent to advanced or latesttrends in IT as required by industry.
The PHIL-IT GCE consists of a cluster of generic examinations thatlikewise assesses the graduate’s overall readiness to become a professional inboth IT subjects and non-IT subjects.
In a way, the PHIL-IT GCE serves as an interim solution for the needfor a board examination, testing the IT skills of Filipino would-beprofessionals, with IT skills set by Filipino IT professionals, yet addressinginternational industry benchmarks.
Competenciescovered by the examinations are fundamentals of discrete math (10%), programming and professionalethics, Systems including basiccomputer organization and architecture, programming languages, and operating system; and applications such as business math,basic statistics, business processes and applications, basic database andinformation management, and networking.

Local stakeholders from the government, academe and private sector will converge next week to discuss opportunities and develop plans, related to the growing global ICT-BPO industry in southern Negros Occidental. Kabankalan Mayor Isidro Zayco, chair of the Kabankalan Ad Hoc Committee on Information and Communications Technology, will spearhead the 1st Southern Negros Conference on ICT: Building Opportunities for Sustainable Economic, Business and Social Development for a Modern Economy, which will be held today at the Kabankalan Training Center Function Hall. The event is in line with the Negros Occidental ICT Investments Program of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Resource speakers include Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology chairperson and Negros Occidental ICT Investments consultant Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, and Convergys, Transcom and Teleperformance officials. Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT) chair Jocelle Batapa-Sigue was re-elected as chairpersons of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) during the national elections held last November 5, 2011 at General Santos City.
Batapa-Sigue vowed to concentrate on expanding the reach of NICP to include other cities such Baguio, Batangas and Tacloban among the more than 30 ICT member councils which share in the common vision of championing countrywide digital development.
For 2012, one of the major thrusts of NICP is to managing the e-Governance Awards for Local Government Units in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government to encourage the effective and efficient utilization of ICT in the delivery of services and performance of the duties and responsibilities by LGU’s. |
